I thought the piled up work would have taken longer. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. I did find something intriguing, though. It seems the last manager, who I never got to meet, had some plans that never reached fruition. Crudely outlined at best, but looks to be promising if it works. A tournament is nothing new, but petitioning the mayor for her blessings and possible memories to work as rewards...

I'll certainly have to continue my predecessor's work.

It seems a lot of time has passed since the ball. I've been swamped at the coliseum, clearing out the backlog of work that was left over. As I see Jr. mentioned before, I've left my job as math teacher and took up the position of coliseum manager. I'm sure the students will be devastated to know I won't be teaching them anymore. I'm sure a sufficient substitute will take my place by the time the following semester begins.

As manager, however, I'd like to meet those working at the coliseum so I have more than a name to work with. Whenever you have the time.

And then there's the helpful things returned to me for attending the ball. A scale model of the Kukai Foundation isn't terribly useful, but nice to have on my desk. I find these memories more intriguing, though. The Galactic Federation, the government of the majority of the planets, and several of the laws with long-reaching repercussions. The Life Recycling Act from the turn of the 46th century. It allowed the construction of cyborgs from donors, recycling life. That extended to clones and biologically engineered weapons.

As cloning became rampant, humanity became biologically fragile and couldn't adapt to as many environments. Conflicts broke out over habitable environments. So came the Species Preservation Act to counteract the Life Recycling Act, the goal of which was to fix the genetic flaws caused by the LRA. Those in charge of following through were headquartered at the Kukai Foundation, working to abolish genetic transformation and cloning. The Foundation was chosen as we took in many victims of recycling and helped them form lives.

It makes me wish I had such a large scale project like Species Preservation on my hands again. Something like that and maybe I could forget about amnesia.

((1% on the Galactic Federation and assorted laws. 14% total, 0% remaining.))

Ask the midget. I'm sure he can tell you all about me.

You must be the one who punched him in the face, then.

I'd argue that point, but it was oddly satisfying.

And besides, he didn't do it again, so it obviously worked.

My, that certainly sounds important. But you know, there are ways other than work to keep oneself occupied~.

I try to stay active. There may be other ways, but work is certainly the most suitable for me.

Rubedo claims you're not as boring as you seem, though I've yet to see it.

I can't see why he'd claim that. He's always been the more... practical of the two.

Perhaps he was simply hoping I would take time from bothering him to find out.

A model of the place you were from? Oh, can I see it sometime? It sounds interesting! (I hope you enjoy your new job, Gaignun! It sounds like you like it, so far)

...Recycling life...? I see...

That won't be a problem, MOMO. I'll be sure to bring it out at least once.

Right. As long as someone signed up as a donor, they brought people back as cyborgs. Whether or not they remembered anything is another matter.

Thank you!! You made it all yourself, though? That must have taken a lot of effort!

That sounds a little sad...

Not quite. Many of us received something from our homes for going to the ball. I found it on my desk one morning, already built.

It had to have been, otherwise they wouldn't have repealed the law that allowed it.

From: [identity profile] etherbow.livejournal.com
Oh, I see! I didn't see that part, I'm sorry.

It's good that they repealed it, then.

Hold on!

You two are quitting? Weren't we just discussing the sad disappearance of our fellow schoolteachers? You realize who'll have to pick up the slack, of course. What if they make me teach health until someone else shows up?

Date: 2009-07-30 02:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fadetonigredo.livejournal.com
Sorry to spring that on you, but yes. The manager positions are much closer to what we were doing before being brought here, and therefore suit the two of us better than teaching.

I'm sure it won't be long before someone comes in to fill the positions. Worst case scenario, see if you can't rope in some of the others around the school to teach health. If you do end up teaching health... well, you may not have the amnesia to worry about for long.

Date: 2009-07-31 02:41 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
Hmm. I suppose I can forgive you. The head of a corporation probably has higher ambitions than 'schoolteacher'.

I don't think health covers magical amnesia inflicted by a malevolent island, but I'll keep my hopes high, thanks.

Just a little. I daresay the last fifteen years felt a bit more... productive. I had to take the opportunity where I could.

If only one could get covered for that. We'd be raking in the cash.

I don't think there's too much use for money on this island, anyway. Not that that's stopping me from hoarding it like a squirrel in autumn. You're the manager of the coliseum now, I take it? Do people regularly show up to fight?
